Community Care

Taking care of our community together.

We work to address negative outcomes associated with systemic poverty in Camp Hill by working with our neighbors to build more resilient lives through our partnership with ACROSS.
2023 Hailstorm Long-Term Recovery

ABOUT THE LONG-TERM RECOVERY

On March 23, 2023, a once-in-a-century climate disaster struck Camp Hill. Softball-sized hail smashed nearly every windshield in town and severely damaged over 100 roofs. Without an emergency declaration, the people of our town were left to rebuild on their own.

Oak Street Community Center and ACROSS have teamed up to connect local residents with federal, state, and private resources to repair their homes. Since 2023, we have:
  • Secured over 1 million dollars in material donations for the recovery.
  • Tarped nearly all the damaged roofs.
  • Acquired two mobile homes to re-house two families displaced by the hailstorm, one of which we renovated.
  • Assisted local families in applying for USDA and SBA grants and loans.
  • Connected residents with churches and organizations who have replaced damaged siding and a decaying wheelchair ramp.

TO RECEIVE ASSISTANCE

Visit the Community Center during normal operating hours to discuss available assistance.
Emergency Water

ABOUT EMERGENCY WATER

Camp Hill's aging water system represents a significant economic burden to the residents of Camp Hill. Due to system-wide leaks, residents' minimum water bills are prohibitively high, and any repairs required necessitate shutting off water to all consumers. To support our neighbors, we have collected and distributed emergency bottled water for residents to keep in stock for the next water outage.

DISTRIBUTION

We currently do not have emergency water to distribute.
Housing Insecurity

HEIRS PROPERTY

Many members of our community face housing insecurity. We help by connecting them with legal advice necessary to secure their housing and benefit from generational wealth. Contact Warren Tidwell at 334-663-5472 for assistance.

ON-SITE HYGIENE FACILITIES

With your financial partnership we will be able to complete renovations to our bathroom and laundry room to have on-site ADA shower and laundry facilities for housing-insecure residents.

Home Delivery
