Program Goals

Our plans for 2025.

Last year 49 good neighbors answered our cry for help and provided emergency funding to repair our failing sewer line. Because of their generosity, we were able to continue our vital work to our most disenfranchised neighbors in Camp Hill. We truly cannot do any of our vital work without the partnership of good people who are committed to racial, gender, and economic justice in rural Alabama.  Are you a person who cares deeply about justice? If so, this is an invitation to be a partner in our work. Your support will sustain the good progress we’ve made and move us closer to a fully-operational community center.
Yes! I'd Like to Give Online
or make checks payable to "First Universalist," put "Oak Street Appeal" in the memo, and mail to
First Universalist, Attn: Oak Street Community Center, PO Box 86, Camp Hill, AL 36850
All gifts made to First Universalist Church for the Oak Street Community Center are tax deductible
and used only for secular charitable purposes.
How We used your gifts in 2024
Because you covered the cost of our plumbing emergency, we were able to provide:
  • Free supplemental nutrition weekly to 277 individuals (23% of our town's residents).
  • Free pantry deliveries to shut-ins.
  • Additional, free supplemental nutrition boxes monthly to 64 local seniors
  • Minor home repairs to local residents.
  • Connections to local low-cost or free resources to address major repairs and increase housing security.
  • Emergency water to aid in regular service interruptions.
  • Regular phone or in-person communication with seniors who live alone to ensure they were safe and healthy.
Our Goals for 2025
As we approach a new year, our goal is to increase our community reach by completing renovations to our community center and expanding our food security and community care programs:

  • Increasing food options and quantities at the food pantry.
  • Providing meals-on-wheels for shut-in residents.
  • Completing renovations to our center so we can
    • Start an on-site feeding program for low-income residents.
    • Provide an on-site ADA shower and laundry facilities for housing-insecure residents.
    • Provide community gathering spaces for local clubs, groups, and enrichment programs.
    • Provide an accessible space for our local seniors to gather and build community.
  • Collaborating with local providers to host health fairs, wellness clinics, and family life education.
